About Me
I have been taking photographs for over 40 years. Photography was my second career but it is now solely a hobby.
About My Work
First and foremost I resurrected this site to enable me to show my ‘work’ (it’s not work but I don’t want to keep typing ‘photography’) independently of social media, which is rapidly becoming too fickle/hostile to stills and/or a political propaganda medium. I ran this website in a very different form while I was working in photography, to showcase my work and help attract clients. I am no longer trying to sell my services or promote myself. It exists just ‘because.’ How I get the message out there to bring people here, however, is a conundrum I’ve yet to solve.
If you’ve followed me on social media, or were a visitor to my previous website, you’ll see this as a departure in visual language and subject matter. I’ve taken a long time to establish what I like to photograph and how I like to do it. While there is a fairly unified aesthetic in evidence, this will not be a social media-esque one trick pony sort of thing. I will adapt and change as I go. But for now it’s black and white, mostly 35mm film, and photographs chiefly concerned with formalism. Form is mainly how I see the world. I’ve tried pretty much all of the tried and tested methods and genres of photography but I return every time to a (principally) formalistic approach. Many of my images are furthermore photographs that are about being photographs. To that end they’re currently single images rather than series or projects (heathen!)
Some of the images you see here are united by the same subject, because it’s something I’m interested in, but I’m undecided about making something of it, or not. Please enjoy and thanks for visiting.
