I have been taking photographs for over 40 years. Photography was my second career but it is now solely a hobby.

About My Work

First and foremost I resurrected this site to enable me to show my ‘work’ (it’s not work but I don’t want to keep typing ‘photography’) independently of social media, which is rapidly becoming too fickle/hostile to stills. I ran this website in a very different form while I was working in photography, to showcase myself and attract clients. I am no longer trying to sell my services or promote myself. This site exists just ‘because.’ How I get the message out there to bring people here, however, is a conundrum I’ve yet to solve, and I’m loath to resort to ‘tricks’ on social media to do it.

It’s taken me several years, outside of the more constrained bounds of commissioned photography, to establish what photography I like to make. Myriad projects have been started and stopped (only one reaching a successful conclusion) and I have slowly come to realise that (with thanks to my influences, unbeknown to them) that I’ve got to a point where I simply photograph things that catch my attention, wherever I am, at whatever time. This has become a source of fascination all of its own. It really has been as simple as finding a way to define my way of working in a few words, that in turn feeds back as inspiration for the work. Moreover it has freed me from the (self-imposed) need to define what kind pf photographer I am, to fit in with the way photography seems to exist nowadays. Because this has liberated some mental space I have some ideas for projects again, this time because they’ve naturally suggested themselves to me, rather than being contrived. They’ll come in due course, however one I’ve been working on for four years on and off is given a page here, because I think it’s worth pursuing. Everything you see here will have been shot on 35mm film with one of my 40+ year old Nikon SLRs (F3, FM2n, FE2) and a 28mm lens or occasionally a 50.
